The Bistro takes its name from the Alwyn Vincent, South Africa's last steam tugboat! A brief history is painted on the wall near the Bistro parking lot, and the tug boat is within sight but still under restoration before being relocated alongside the Bistro.

Also fabulous that Elliott Gallery is open 7 days a week - And serves as an up-to-date tourism information hub!

The Dam is South Africa's 7th largest (Western Cape's largest) and the principal water supply source for the Cape Metro.
Good destination for an outing - to relax, swim, fish, sail, windsurf, camp.... and access via the Theewater Sports Club includes the Clubhouse bar and Galley Restaurant, serving simple but good, affordable (NOT "fast") meals.
The Sports Club gates daily fee has become quite pricey (from R110pp) - If you plan on visiting a few times, consider applying for Villiersdorp Tourism membership (R400pa - incl. free access for member and their partner)!
There are alternative access points to the Dam, such as Aphrodisiac Shack (R50pp, by arrangement) which offers a lovely picnic/braai spot near the water.
