The district, which was an important center of worship during the Early Byzantine Period, has a history of 1500 years. The neighborhood, named after the janissaries of Albanian origin, which was assigned to protect the neighborhood after the conquest of Istanbul in 1453, was one of the promenade places of the 19th century. Although fires in the second half of the century led to the destruction of historical buildings and the replacement of concrete buildings, the district, which currently has a population of 5,000, still maintains its historical texture.
