I love this New York Icon, but unless you have an emotional reason to go up ( like an attachment to movies like sleepless in Seattle :) ), I don't recommend going up, there are other alternatives.

Nice walk in a nice neighborhood. An old railroad converted to a park 30 feet above the street level so it gives you nice view of the city and the river.

This is a great often forgotten park. It's close to time sq. and a great resting spot. it has ice skating and a great market during the Holidays season. be sure to stop by.
