“The National Library was founded in 1813 during the government of José Miguel Carrera, political and military of the Old Mother country that fought for the independence of Chile. While the first director of the National Library was appointed directly by Bernardo O'Higgins. The liberator of Chile entrusted to Manuel de Salas mission to lead this institution that housed the memory of the nascent republic. During the nineteenth century, the National Library cemented its core bibliographic fund from the donation or purchase of their first collections. These include the library of the Jesuits, the Egaña library, library Mackenna and the library of Andrés Bello among others. Besides the National Library keeps in its archives a copy of every book, magazine or newspaper published in Chile since 1820, totaling more than 400 thousand titles. In fulfilling the centenary of its foundation they work for the construction of the current building located on Avenida Alameda Street Miraflores began. The new building was inaugurated in 1925 and its construction of neoclassical imprint is a bastion of national architecture. Currently the main bibliographical center of the country has a comprehensive collection of books, magazines, newspapers, maps, photo and music files distributed in several rooms as reference and bibliography, researchers lounge, living room for the blind and for home loans. It also organizes exhibitions and displays that highlight the best of national and international culture.”

“Es una suntuosa y elegante mansión construida, a fines del siglo XIX, como residencia del acaudalado empresario Luis Cousiño y su esposa Isidora Goyenechea. Actualmente es uno de los museos más importantes de Santiago. Sus salones, todos decorados con materiales traídos desde Europa, poseen muebles y parquet tallados a mano, cortinajes bordados a mano y cerámicas de mayólica italiana, que reflejan la prosperidad económica de la época. Al lujo y opulencia, se suma el uso de los últimos adelantos tecnológicos del momento, como un ascensor y el primer generador eléctrico de Sudamérica. Después de ser habitado por tres generaciones, en 1940 la familia decidió donarlo a la Municipalidad de Santiago, que lo reservó como un sitio para alojar a insignes visitantes como Golda Meier, Charles de Gaulle y el rey Balduino de Bélgica, entre otros. Tres décadas más tarde se establece su definitiva actividad museológica, conservando toda la riqueza arquitectónica y decorativa presente en sus brocatos, tapices, mármoles, maderas nobles, jarrones de porcelana de Sevres, colección pictórica y armería. Debido a los daños provocados por el terremoto de 2010, el palacio fue sometido a obras de restauración, que concluyeron en septiembre de 2016 y permitieron reparar los daños; recuperar las fachadas originales y descubrir una antigua cava que tenía el edificio, la cual cobró vida como un lugar para exposiciones. Fue declarado Monumento Nacional en 1981.”

“Porque MHM fue creado para dar a conocer a la ciudadanía la historia militar de Chile y su valor como patrimonio histórico-cultural, la conformación de la nación y además para dar a conocer los valores y tradiciones del Ejército. Posee una biblioteca especializada en historia militar que cuenta con aproximadamente 25 mil volúmenes en proceso de registro, además de realizar exposiciones varias, programas educativos con talleres, cursos y visitas guiadas. Además incluye en su página web un museo virtual disponible para la comunidad. Se ubica a pasos (una cuadra) del apartamento.”
