“One of the best restaurants in Oxford. Seasonal dishes and frequently changing menu. The stuffed artichoke with walnuts, pesto and feta cheese is one of our favourite dishes.”

“Despite its Moroccan name and souk-like ambience – waxed ochre walls, old lanterns and brightly coloured cushions – Kazbar is essentially a tapas bar, and a very good one at that. Just beyond the medieval city centre, it’s a cosily romantic venue to spend an evening with friends or lovers. Good, mostly Spanish wines, spirits and beers, soft drinks and mint teas complement the sizzling tapas. There's also a great selection of cocktails from a sweet and tangy fig and vanilla daiquiri to the Marakesh Express, a cinnamon espresso shaken with Absolut vodka and Kahlúa.”

“A popular destination for drinks is the revamped Varsity rooftop bar—find it via the Covered Market High Street entrance—where you can sample delights such as a lychee and chilli sling. They have a waiting list for tables, but the downstairs bar is elegant and ambient, and once you make it to the roof terrace you can see Oxford’s entire skyline from the heart of the city.”

“The Perch is a wonderful half hour walk up the river, or if you walk 10 minutes from Ben up the canal you can cross over the bridge and walk up into Jericho - Inspector Morse territory and good independent restaurants, pubs and the Picture House. My favourite spot to eat there is Manos the Gre The Turf Tavern and The Eagle and Child are both historic Oxford classics. If you want to be by the river the Punter or the Trout are both worth a visit. I’m not a massive fan of the food at the Punter but the Trout is lovely. Here’s 4 pubs worth a visit: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.roughguides.com/article/oxford-pubs/amp/ ”

“This Jericho institution has been mixing up cocktails for decades, and has won awards for doing it particularly well. With an advertised 50 rums, 18 gins, 25 tequilas and 40 whiskies, the quality comes from the freshly squeezed juices and homemade syrups the spirits are mixed with, as well as its retro, subterranean venue, professional bartenders and guest DJs. ”

“The Bear Inn has the proud distinction of being Oxford’s oldest surviving pub, whose history can be traced back as early as 1242. The site has undergone many physical reincarnations and the pub, as it currently stands, was rebuilt in the early 17th century as the residence of the coaching inn’s ostler. As well as being recognised for its impressive historical record, The Bear Inn is also known for its somewhat unexpected yet impressive collection of old ties, representing sports teams, colleges and university clubs, as well as the large number of global visitors who have dropped by, eager to contribute to the collection. ”

“This restaurant is best known for its steak sharing platters, which in my opinion is the best steak in Oxford! You can also find a range of great dishes, wines and beers.”

“Oxford’s food aficionados believe this used to be the best restaurant in the city. When the magnificent Charles Michel was still about town, he’d frequent the pub. So too did the Oxford Gastronomica lot, who know a thing or two about eating. When it launched, the Rickety Press was a low-key, food-focused restaurant with fine cooking and ideas you’d struggle to match unless you went out into The Cotswolds, or down to Henley. Now, it’s had a bit of a makeover and it seems to be more geared towards a crowd that wishes it were in London but still has a year at university to contend with. Pizza and burgers – but good ones. ”

“Nice Pub with huge garden, and good food. You can drive via the ring road, or walk from the house through farmland - it's about half an hour's walk. Turn left out of the house, and then left onto Lake Street. Take the path to the left at the bottom of Lake Street, and then in about 150 yards across the footbridge on the right. This will take you over the lake and over the railway tracks. When you come down the steps from the bridge follow the path for a few minutes until you see a track on your right. Follow the track and this will take you to North Hinksey. ”
