“This is the easiest 14er to summit. However, be aware that just because it's the easiest doesn't make it easy! Be very prepared to hike a mountain at this elevation. Reach out to us for help. ”

“The trailhead to two 14,000ft peaks very nearby the Lodge. During the summer months it may be possible to drive all the way up to the trailhead (high clearance SUV recommended--check local reports first!). Amazing photos at the trailhead---please don't attempt the hikes unless you have trained and experienced.”

Nature Preserve
“This is a great area for dispersed camping in the National Forest. You can go for miles in a 5th wheel with little trouble. Many large pull off camping areas for larger RVs. A few more choices for smaller trailers, and many more choices for tenters. From riverside to valley views are available. Good off roading with sporadic cell coverage at the higher peaks. The Vasquez Peak Wilderness Area offers a beautiful drive very close to Winter Park, CO. This is where you are truly in the mountains. When you reach the top at 11,060 feet, you are presented with amazing panoramic views of the mountains. It is on the Continental Divide so there is plenty of snow.”

“Ancient bristlecone pines are among Colorado’s rare treasures — gnarled trees with twisted trunks, some about 1,600 years old, among the oldest tree species in the world. You can hike among these trees in the Mount Goliath Research Natural Area, which is devoted to the study of the Rocky Mountain bristlecone pine tree. It’s located on the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, and the Pesman Trail leads 1.4 miles into the center of the ancient forest. There are also shorter loops, like the Bristlecone Loop and the Alpine Loop, a moderate hike that is a lovely wildflower hike through the ancient pine trees, from July through mid-August.”
