“Can Framis is the latest Fundació Vila Casas museum. It is an art center devoted to the promotion of contemporary Catalan painting. Located in the old Can Framis factory complex, the museum displays more than 250 paintings from the sixties up to the present made by artists born or currently living in Catalonia. In addition to the permanent collection which is divided in three floors, Can Framis Museum also has an area dedicated to temporary exhibitions named Espai Aø. They update their permanent collection periodically and every three months they open two new temporary exhibitions.”

“This multidisciplinary art gallery also has a bar upstairs where you’re welcome to bring your dog to take a break and have a drink. You can even leave your pet here while you take a closer look at the exhibition on display—the staff is usually happy to take care of them for a while. Miscelánea spotlights works by young artists with diverse approaches to art, design, and video and regularly has creative workshops. Check their website and social media for updates.”

“This foundation works hard to paint a picture of the contemporary art world in this space. You’ll always find a good mix of international and local artists on display, both established names and up-and-comers who are doing something new and interesting. There are two big exhibition rooms, so you can see quite a bit in one visit. The foundation’s vegan cafe is superb! I love the pan esenio, which is a wheat germ bread sweetened with dates. They also make an excellent green juice.”

“With more than 20 years of experience under their belt, this spray-paint brand functions as a shop and a gallery dedicated to all things graffiti-related. It’s managed to expand over the years without losing its essence. There’s also a coffee shop! In addition to this shop, there’s one in the Gràcia neighborhood. Out front there’s an outstanding exhibition space where renowned artists such as Okuda, San, Henry Chalfant & Sharp, Tilt, Inocuo, Aryz, Suso33, Steve Harrington, Loomit, Alex Fakso, and Mark Bodé have shown their work.”

“This industrial complex turned artistic production center focuses on promoting and exhibiting urban art in Barcelona. Its renovated old factory walls are glorious and function like an open-air gallery in which to see the painted works of top national and international street artists. Every year La Escocesa hosts a festival organized by the artists Mina Hamada and Zosen where graffiti and urban art are displayed and dignified. The selection also features lots of up-and-coming talent in the world of mural art.”
