This is a lovely apartment with a separate entrance in one of Santa Cruz's best neighborhoods. With excellent biking and hiking ratings, our Tuscan-style "cottage" is quiet, yet only blocks from the beach and restaurants. Start with coffee in the morning from nearby Verge Coffee Roasters, and look from your private balcony to the courtyard below, with fruit trees and a fountain. Ideal for a couple, or two singles, or perhaps a family with up to two kids, the space is bright and cheerful.

The Seabright neighborhood is one of the most desirable in Santa Cruz. It is generally the first to have the fog "burn off" in the summer, and has wide streets with a mixture of homes built over the last 100 years. Easy strolls to the beach, restaurants, the yacht harbor, and the famous Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
It is excellent for biking and hiking, with lovely trails within a 6 minute drive, or walk from the apartment to the harbor or Boardwalk. It rates very high on "bike friendliness" (94/100) and reasonably high on walkability (67/100).

You'll have private access to a one-bedroom apartment with loft, although the loft shouldn't be used for sleeping (no fire escape). Full kitchen with double sink, classic four burner gas stove and oven, full refrigerator, etc. Large balcony overlooks the courtyard and fruit trees. Most months will have an endless supply of Meyer's lemons, other months have plums, apples or avocados.
You also have access to a shared garage, primarily for the use of a new large capacity washer and dryer. There are bikes available but we should plan this in advance.
The entrance is entirely private up a flight of stairs. Very little noise from traffic or neighbors except on Monday morning when the garbage trucks operate.
There is a separate guest room for additional guests if that would be of interest to you. There is an additional cost for this room, but it's complete with a 3/4 bath and refrigerator. Contact us for details and pricing. The room would be tacked on to your Airbnb contract, so there's only one bill to pay.
One more thing: to meet the Airbnb standards for COVID cleaning, we have changed our check-in time to after 4:00pm, and check-out to before 10:00am. We know this is a hassle, but it's for everyone's safety. Thanks!

As you probably know, Santa Cruz has just suffered its worst wildfire in recorded history. This has just happened, so it's hard to know how this will impact the county, visitors, the University, etc. The fire area was north of the city, and between Highway 1 and Highway 9. Santa Cruz city was not touched, thank goodness. It's a continuing reminder to be careful with fire in the summer.
Prices quoted include the Santa Cruz City Tax. Without going into a lot of detail, Airbnb does not have an arrangement with Santa Cruz City, so most landlords add 11% to your nightly rate. The city specifically does not want to "bundle" the tax, but we DO bundle the tax because we don't want you to be surprised by an extra $100 or so. Please take this into account when you're comparing our place to others in the city. Our prices include "TOT".

About 5 minutes by car from Whole Foods and downtown Santa Cruz where you have lots of shopping and dining options. 10 minutes to Santa Cruz by bike. 12 minutes to Costco by car. Lots of organic food stores and chain supermarkets in the area.
Easy access to local wineries in the Santa Cruz mountains, several state parks, UC Santa Cruz, and wonderful hiking and biking trails. See: Wilder Ranch State Park, Henry Cowell State Park, and of course the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
UC Santa Cruz is 17 minutes away, and Cabrillo College is 12 minutes away. Monterey Bay Aquarium is 50 minutes south, and San Francisco is 90 minutes north.

Susan and I live in Santa Cruz and we have raised five daughters here. We've been married for 33 years, and have been blessed as foster parents and adoptive parents for many years. We have been lucky to manage three properties that are a combination of personal and family homes. In Santa Cruz, we have a cute apartment on our property that has delighted guests for almost eight years. It gets rave reviews because of the location and the nice touches. In Aptos/Rio del Mar, we offer a beach house that my parents built in 1957. It's surprisingly contemporary, warm, and very reasonably priced compared to homes that are actually on the beach. Finally, in Costa Rica, we have a gorgeous home that is on the beach, yet tucked away in the jungle. We have a great property manager in Costa Rica who helps our guests with any issues they have, as well as arranges tours. We love to travel, and love using home swaps and Airbnb as a way to see the world. We've taken two sabbaticals to Europe, each time with four daughters. Great life experiences.

On occasion, we use BNB Sitters, a professional property management company, which fills in for us if we are out of the area.
If we're out of town when you check-in, that's OK. You've got the door code, and the place will be stocked with coffee, milk, breakfast stuff, wine, and so forth.
