A few minutes drive from the Glen Eden train station and the Titirangi village, this cottage is set away from a quiet cul de sac road and looks out over the Kowhai Reserve wetland. Peaceful and private with everything you need for a short or long stay. Explore the West Coast beaches, the native forest, the local Titirangi village culture or hop on a train to the CBD, this location is ideal for leisure or business travellers.

The cottage is set away from the street and the main house and is the first floor of a double storey unit. The second floor is a studio loft, which is listed separately and has its own external entrance. The space is generally very peaceful and private with beautiful views out over the wetland where you can enjoy sundowners from the hammock or the deck. In winter, we have a great Daikin heat pump that keeps the place warm and toasty and on those sunny winter days, you can soak up the rays out on the deck.

We live in the main house and will leave you to enjoy your stay uninterrupted and independent of us, but feel free to pop in if there's anything you need.

Titirangi is at the foothills of the Waitākere Ranges on Auckland's west coast - the largest expanse of native forest in Auckland and home to many native birds, such as the fantail, tui, kereru, morepork and silver-eye, as well as geckos and rare native frogs.

Mt Atkinson is a relatively short walk where you can look out on expansive views of Titirangi Village and the Manukau and Waitemata harbours. The popular Beveridge and Pipeline tracks are great for walkers, runners, and cyclists and just a short distance away. These tracks will take you to the popular Arataki Visitors centre.

Cornwallis and Piha are both excellent beaches, less than half an hour's drive away, while French Bay and Titirangi Beach are even closer.

The village is well-known cultural hub with an active local theatre, cinema and community art gallery. The Titirangi village market, held every last Sunday of the month is a must for great food and local artisanal products.

I'm originally from Johannesburg, South Africa and I now live in Titirangi, Auckland with my husband and two daughters. I absolutely love it here and we make the most of this awesome location as much as we can. Trail running, kayaking, body boarding, mountain biking - its all within a day trip away.

I'm an ecologist and my job has always involved a fair amount of travel. I LOVE seeing new places and keeping it local. Happy to share my favourite local eateries, markets, events, beaches and walks with you - there are plenty!

During our travels, we have realised that the place you stay really makes or breaks how you experience the place so we have tried to create a space that we would want to stay in if we were visiting Auckland.

South Africans are known for our "gasvryheid" (hospitality) so "kom maak jouself gerus tuis" (make yourself at home).
