Welcome to The Cannery. Incredible views, wildlife, 8-person spa, outdoor kitchen & fireplace, outdoor showers, firepit, watercraft (Hydro Bikes, Kayaks, and a 5- person Paddle Boat with canopy and cooler) crabbing and clamming equipment, pond, creek, gazebo with benches, creekside Tea House & more.

The mild microclimate here results in less wind, and temperatures that are on average more than 10° warmer than oceanfront.

Please note that although the listing shows five bedrooms, one of these is actually the library, which is a wonderful small cozy room with a single Serta sofa bed and awesome water views.

This home was built in 1926 by the daughter of the original Cannery owner. It was extensively updated in 2004-2005 and again in 2018-2019, but retains much of the original detail and character.

When we are in residence in the adjacent guesthouse on the property, our dogs will be with us. They are friendly, but are territorial with other pets so we are generally not able to welcome guest's dogs, although we will consider it on a case-by-case basis for extended-stay guests.

There are two master ensuite bedrooms, two queen guestrooms with a large Jack and Jill bathroom, basement game room, family room, library, living room, a large chefs Kitchen with gorgeous water and garden views, the dining area.

Private and tranquil, the home is nestled in a world-class setting on Alsea Bay. Crab, clams and fish right from the property. Hunt for agates and other beach treasures on our three private beaches. Kayaks, Hydro bikes and paddle boats available for rent.

With almost 5 acres, and surrounded by forest and water in a gated estate setting, this property offers a serene escape and fresh coastal breezes.

This listing is for the main house on the estate. We are in residence at the guest house part of the year with our pack of knuckleheads.

Our guests will enjoy our private beaches at low tides, the pavilion with an outdoor kitchen and wood burning fireplace, the new 8-person spa, the tranquil creekside She-shed, the firepit, and waterfront gazebo.

Guests are welcome to bring their own small watercraft, and there are also Kayaks, Hydro bikes and a 5-person paddle boat on the property for rent. There is a kayak launch for easy access.

You can clam and crab from the property as our guests without a license. We provide all of the equipment, you provide the chicken legs :-)

Note From the Host: In light of the current coronavirus outbreak, we are taking additional steps to ensure the health and safety of our guests. Our homes are professionally sanitized after each guest, with all doorknobs, light switches, thermostats, remote controls, etc. treated with antiviral-antibacterial agents. Bedding is washed on the hottest settings with bleach. We also have professional grade HEPA filter air cleaners available on request.

We live on the property with our four friendly Rottweilers and our cat. We live in the main house most of the year, but we do move to the guest house from time to time when the main house is booked. If you are allergic to, or uncomfortable with cats or dogs, this is probably not a good fit.

Please, do not smuggle in your pups! We have had a couple of guests do this recently.

We will see that your dog is here against our house rules, but more important is your pet’s safety.

Our dogs are gentle, extremely social, and love to come greet our guests and, but, as all dogs, they are territorial in their home.

They have been fine and friendly with all the dogs they have encountered, but we can’t take a chance on the safety of your fur baby.

All of our other listings are pet friendly, so if you like this home and want a recommendation for one of our other wonderful listings, please do not hesitate to contact me. Pets are also allowed if you rent the entire estate

The cleaning fee includes the home itself and the spa. We generally do not supply firewood for the firepit or outdoor fireplace, so you may wish to stock up. There is a convenience store just north on the 101 where you can buy bundles of firewood for around $5.

The Community Fee is Lincoln County's 10% lodging fee that we collect and remit to the County.

There is a good but pricey grocery store five minutes from the house. We suggest, if you want to just be able to relax and enjoy the property, to order online at Fred Meyers a couple of days prior to your arrival, then stop on the way to the property (there are stores to the north and south in Newport and Florence) and have the groceries delivered to your car. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you should need, but if there is something you DO need, please let me know as I may have it in the lock off section of the main house.

You are welcome to load and unload in the driveway, but we ask that you park in the grass area to the left of the driveway in order to avoid blocking the view from the guesthouse. Please do not park in the driveway in front of the guest home, as it is reserved for the occupants.

This is an amazing location. It was used as a fishing village by the Alsea people for thousands of years. It became the original village of Waldport in the 1800s, and housed a cannery, post office, general store and the ferry landing.

The pilings from the cannery still exist along some of our beaches, and if you head west at low tide (towards the bridge and the ocean) you can explore ruins of the former settlement, as well as waterfalls and fern gullies. Please use caution if exploring the ruins.

We have a unique microclimate here that often keeps us warm and sunny even when the coast is fogged in. In general, we are 10 degrees warmer than the oceanfront and do not experience as many of the high winds that the beach gets due to our protected location.

I am a real estate broker and investor. I enjoyed a 30 year career in commercial real estate and asset management. In 2000, I started my own commercial real estate company, and eventually owned two commercial brokerage and property management companies in San Diego. When we lived in San Diego, we purchased a French Victorian home in the charming gold rush town of Julian California, about an hour outside San Diego. We loved it so much that we turned it into a vacation rental so other dog parents could vacation in the mountains with their pups. It was a beloved vacation home, with guests returning year after year. A movie was filmed onsite, and we have many wonderful memories from our time there. We decided to repeat that great experience when we moved to Oregon in 2013, and have been buying and renovating homes on the Oregon coast since 2015. I am so lucky to be doing what I love to do. While the sales process is going on, I haunt my favorite thrift and consignment stores looking for wonderful pieces that I can restore for use in our vacation rentals. We always buy some items new: mattresses, linens, TVs, appliances, etc., but I love the character and unique personality that a stunning vintage item provides. I also love restoring furniture. During the renovation process, I live in the house. This is both so I can work on the property, and even more importantly, get a feel for the house and the neighborhood. I get to know my neighbors, the mailman, meet the neighborhood pups and their owners, and see what time each day the sun shines into different rooms. The house and I begin to communicate. Through the renovation and design process, I get a deep sense of the home and the neighborhood. When we are done, the property gets a name. The names are indicative of both the location and the nature of the home. Yaquina Bay Club is serene and elegant, while Yaquina Surf Camp is fun and funky. Once the property goes on the vacation rental market, I try to stay at each of my homes at least once a quarter. It is important to see things from a guest’s perspective, so that our homes continue to be places where wonderful memories are made. Since I have lived in and renovated each home, these are definitely more than investments. These are homes I have lived in and love, and I hope this comes through to our guests. It is also fascinating to see the difference in these homes from the time we buy them to what they are today. Most of the homes that we purchase are foreclosures, estate sales, distressed sales, etc. All of them sat sad, vacant and unloved for a long time. When I first walk through a distressed home, it feels cold and forlorn. Now the homes are happy, cared for and loved, and you can feel it the moment you walk in the door. Some are calm and serene, some are classic beach family fun, but all are happy and welcoming. I would live in any of these homes in a heartbeat. I guess that's why I bought them in the first place. But I really love sharing them with our guests and their friends and families. Welcome!
