Victoria Heights, a quiet neighborhood equi-distant from Belleview, Ocklawaha, Lake Weir and The Villages. A modest 2 bedroom home on a 1/4 acre lot with mature pine, palm and Live Oak. Flowering shrubs (in February). Quiet and safe, only traffic is neighborhood residents. We family members refer to Victoria Heights as the "neighborhood that time forgot."

Your hosts are Richard, a retired landscape painter, studio instructor, and museum director, and Sam, a handsome cat of fourteen years.

숙소
Ample family home - full of family history and memories - built 40 years ago by the host's mother and occupied by different generations/family members since. Entire home has a handsome ceramic tile floor which is a joy to residents and house-cleaners alike. Country furniture and ceramic crocks from upstate NY (and north central Florida) decorate the large kitchen and dining room and the bedrooms. The sky-light bathroom has a great walk-in tiled shower.

Sometimes, between exhibitions, the artist's landscape paintings of NE hardwood forests and Florida hammock forests hang on the walls. Currently the work is on display in the artist's studio, 56 Main, Delhi, NY.

위치

Belleview, 플로리다, 미국

Victoria Heights is a special neighborhood of families and retirees - some two dozen homes on large lots with mature trees. It's round-about drive is used only by residents, so little traffic in the neighborhood. Close to Ocklawaha, Belleview, Lake Weir, Summerfield, The Villages.

Nearby is Carney Island Park, a huge nature preserve, with hiking trails, picnic area, and beach. Also boat launching.

I'm a landscape painter working in my own woods and in other forests of the Catskills, the hammock forests of Florida, and on the seacoast in Mass and Maine, and in New Mexico. I live in a renovated saphouse with one cat in the northwest Catskills on the dairy farm (now disused) that I grew up on. I trained as a painter at Univ. of Chicago, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Pratt Institute. For twenty years I worked as a museum director, principally of historic religion utopias like the Shakers and the Perfectionists at Oneida, but went back to my studio full time twenty years ago. I built this small post-and-beam cabin four years ago - Catskill Forest Cabin Retreat/AIRBNB/682997 - as a place for other painters, friends, and strangers to stay, rest, and explore the forest that I own with my brother. It's hard maple, ash, black cherry, beech and basswood, and formerly was tapped for maple syrup making but not now. Visitors can make arrangements for drawing and painting instruction and critiques. I offer instruction for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced who are looking for a new depth in their work. I used to cut and split my own fire wood; now I buy some and ask campers to bring in 'approved' firewood, that is, firewood treated in a wood kiln to kill Emerald Ash Borer which is a threat to our ash trees. I do get to NYC occasionally to see exhibitions, old friends, and enjoy the city. And I travel a fair amount by auto in the Southeast and Southwest. The upper Midwest and Northwest are coming up soon I hope. Cell phone reception is spotty but not impossible in these hills and I now have broadband wifi (after years of waiting). No TV: I read natural history of trees, fiction, poetry, spirituality and landscape.
