We will arrive at the farm and introduce ourselves. You will have water, and sun protection. I will give the agenda and plan for the tour and I will show where the rest rooms are. When we are all ready we will begin walking through the coffee orchard. I will explain the farming and coffee making process and I will briefly discuss the biology of the plant. After the orchard, I will reveal the cacao orchard hidden in almost plain view. I will also reveal a vanilla orchard and explain the farming process of both. You will be in the shade looking at the marvelous colors of ripe cacao (chocolate) on the tree in beautiful sunny Hawai'i. We will get to the processing area but I will go into detail on the different types and even history of chocolate. Check out our rare and exotic plants, avocado trees and chocolate kitchen. We make our chocolate on the farm! Look and learn about the machines, tempering, flavoring and hand making bean-to-bar chocolate. Samples will be provided and tasted and we have a small gift store for traveling guests.
We will provide a Hawaiian Chocolate Tasting Menu with lots of different chocolate from our farm and other farms in Hawai'i.
We will supply bug repellant and have onsite restrooms.
I am a chocolate maker and cacao processor guiding people on tours of our chocolate farm in Hawai'i. I have been in the industry for half a decade and lived in Hilo for 8 years. I am a professional chocolate taster and know the plants, flowers and tropical fruits on the farm and will be happy to share all my knowledge of them. I run social media for the East Hawai'i Cacao Association and have participated in the Hilo Cacao and Chocolate Festival and the Big Island Chocolate Festival yearly.
