We leave the city early at 6:30am by private minivan for our 1.5 hr drive to reach the railway market in time to the train pass through, so please be on time - it's worth getting up for we promise! The vendors here sell their goods along an active railway track with everything lined up a few inches from the track’s edge. You’ll get to see what happens when the train arrives - it can be crowded with both visitors and locals but we'll find you the best spot to view the train as well as taking a closer look at the local produce sold along the tracks. This area is known for coconut sugar plantations, we'll introduce you to a local family who have been making this Thai staple ingredient for as long as they can remember. It's a bumpy road to their place - but we're sure you'll enjoy seeing a typical countryside home plantation and learning about the family's daily lives as well as how the sugar is traditionally made - of course you can have a taste too! We'll take a small boat through the narrow canals before reaching the floating market itself seeing typical village houses on the khlongs (canals) along the way and enjoy a tasty treat bought from a boat vendor at the market as we pass through it. Back on land there'll be some free time to grab a quick lunch or shop for souvenirs before we head back to the city and drop you off back where we started by National Stadium BTS.
Pam, Pat & Team
We - Pam, Pat, Nai, Mond & A - are the Bangkok Urban Adventures team. We're licensed local guides based in the old part of the city, but we love to get out of town and share the quieter countryside old ways of life as well. A visit to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is one of the most popular day trips from Bangkok so it's often crowded with tourists, but we aim to give you the best of both worlds - we'll show you to the big landmark sights such as this but also show you some hidden gems and help you to get under the skin of our city, local culture, history and traditions. We believe in responsible tourism. Maeklong Railway Market is busy with both locals and visitors in the morning, but don't worry we know the best viewpoints. Next we'll go meet a local lady at her peaceful, rural sugar plantation - no crowds here! Damnoen Saduak Floating Market attracts a lot of tourists - it's the biggest and best known, but we'll take the less visited route on our boat ride so you get to see both the famous market and the local life along the way.

Please be on time, the train won't wait for us, so we can't wait for you! Traffic conditions may delay the return journey to Bangkok. At weekends we will offer the choice to visit Tha Kha a more local, less busy floating market if it's open on the day. You may join an Urban Adventures Group.
