We meet at the castle where a brief history of how the Cape was founded. The experience starts from Darling Street through the desolation of District 6, depicting how 'Apartheid' affected an entire community through forced removals. Passing Trafalgar High School, a forerunner in the anti-apartheid protest, a brief visit to Stroompies an informal settlement, where a number of the descendants reside. At Streetscapes, meet some of the homeless earning a basic livelihood through urban gardening, and an open discussion on the South African political history. The Service Dining Rooms which still feeds the destitute since 1945. Buitenkant Street was the border for territorial separation between the Colonialists and the residents of District Six.
Born and raised in District 6, I have first-hand experience of the negative impact the forced removals had on the community. I am passionate about the rich and vibrant cultures of the district, which still finds expression in the townships on the Cape Flats. The power of the Apartheid regime with all its brutality and oppression, is diminished through the extraordinary capacity of forgiveness.
