This bike ride has everything -- boat rides, incredibly beautiful sea shores, quiet rural farmlands, a lunch at a beach park in Manchester, and if time allows, microbrews overlooking the harbor at the end of the ride, and a camel (yes, a real camel). Our ride begins at The Bicycle Repair Shop. Participants can bring their own bikes or rent from Seattle Bicycle Repair shop. They have lightweight 10 Speeds, hybrids and electric bikes. They can be reached at: (206) 682-7057, or reserve online at thebicyclerepairshop.com. Once we are all set, we catch the West Seattle water taxi and start the ride following the mostly flat bike path around West Seattle to the Fauntleroy ferry. After a 40-minute ferry ride, we pedal through the stunning scenery of rural Kitsap Peninsula. At our midpoint, we sit by the sea shore park in Manchester and have a provided lunch. After lunch we take on the easiest part of the ride, coasting through pastures and pause along the ride to gaze out over Rich Passage. We end the ride taking a small boat across Bremerton bay, and if weather and time allow, have a microbrew on a deck while we wait for the awesome 60-min. ferry ride back to Seattle. The total mileage of biking is 25 miles. If you haven’t done much bike riding recently, I would recommend that you reserve an electric bike since there are some hills on the bike ride as well.
When I was 14, I joined my camp counselors and biked from Bellingham, Washington to Palo Alto, California. Although I have done nothing of that distance since, I love one day bike rides. Round the Sound consists of everything I love about one-day biking in the great northwest. I have explored the entire northwest on bike, backpack, driving or walking. I once led long distance fundraising bike trips for the American Lung Association (Trek Tri-Island). What I discovered was that bike riders enjoy a one-way trip that includes ferries and beautiful destinations to bike through without having to return the way they came. This makes every turn in the road interesting as a first time pass through.
Lunch will be provided
All ferry costs and reservations will be handled by the host
If needing to rent bike, contact The Bicycle Repair Shop two days prior: firstname.lastname@example.org or (206) 682 7057
