In this leatherworking class, we'll be creating a personalized leather-wrap for an 8oz flask from start to finish. After sharp objects are put away you'll be treated to an around the world whiskey tour. Your pallets will be expertly guided to places like Japan, Ireland, Kentucky, or Fremont. Begin the a blank canvas of classic rugged, veg-tan 4oz milled cowhide leather - the leather that started it all for Uphill Designs. Choose how to personalize your leather - we have several lettering and number sets. Students often put initials, names, or even longer messages onto their leather goods. Choose your dye - we offer dyes in light, medium and dark brown, as well as black to further make your flask one of a kind. Take a break, you've earned it! While your dyed wrap dries before the next step, go ahead and dive in to the provided snacks and the next installment of the whiskey tasting. Now it's time to set the hardware. I prefer antiqued brass hardware. Full cast-brass hardware offers the longest-lasting, most durable option, and the antique finish pairs well with our rustic colors and rugged leather. You'll be using Line 20 brass snaps and setting them with an arbor press.

Hey, I'm Dan Sedlacek. Uphill Designs was born from my 2665 mile thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2013. Using a backpack and tent I sewed myself, a vision emerged to build a company centered on community, adventure, and gear. After 4 years of mastering the design and production of leather and waxed canvas goods we opened our Workshop & Flagship Store in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Additionally I teach a leather belt making class, also available through AirBnB experiences.
I will be hosting the class at the Uphill Designs workshop located in the Ballard Neighborhood of Seattle. This is a large, open, industrial workshop where we design and manufacture our leather and canvas goods.
