Our journey begins in the heart of Cape Town's center, vibrant greenmarket square, from where we will visit the slave lodge and Cape Town's slave memorial. The Castle Of Good Hope and the British City Hall bear the legacy of torture and freedom respectively. The City Hall being the site of Nelson Mandela's iconic speech in 1990. A short walk will take us to the District six museum a reminder of a people shattered by apartheid's forced removals and from here we will stop off at Truth Coffee, Cape Town's favored local coffee House. A walk through the company gardens bears witness to our journey from a Dutch refreshment settlement to British property and our first Parliament building. Tuynhuys, built in 1700 as a tool shed has survived through the ages and today serves as the office of South Africa's State President. Our oldest residence in the VOC gardens has witnessed much from the days when slaves sought shade under her branches to the present day garden, a getaway from the office and a spacious playground for the young. Our stop at Cape Towns' race classification is a rude awakening to the Apartheid mindset of the 1960's. Lastly we will stop at the St Georges Cathedral from where the Arch Bishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu led a march of 30 000 people in defiance of Apartheid's and the call for the release of Nelson Mandela.
As a local, born and raised in Cape Town, I always regard it as a tremendous pleasure to share the story of my city with visitors. Being a registered guide with Cape Town tourism South Africa, I pride myself in my work and I also regard myself as one of the best among the city's guiding fraternity. I am also a specialist in providing an authentic Cape town city walk.
Our stops include the historical company gardens, the race classification board, the vibrant greenmarket square, the grande parade and a walk along one of cape towns' early streets where we will also pass by a museum that tells the story of cape towns' forced removals. We will also visit a non profit organisation. A special surprise on our walk are my two favorite stops, Cape Town's award winning coffee house and a sneak away book lounge.
