The Laplandic nature around Kalix is stunningly beautiful. Here the taiga meets the coast of the Bothnian Bay and the majestic Kalix River flows into the sea. We start the tour at Camp Rimfrost and make sure that we are ready for an exciting tour. It is the season and the weather that determines the agenda. From the camp we walk out in to the Taiga and search after the wildlife that lives here and look at the amazing nature. If there is snow on the ground, we use snowshoes or skis, in the summer we move by foot. As we move through the Taiga as quietly as possible, we try to capture the exciting meetings on camera and if it is season we harvest what we can from the nature's pantry. During the journey we stop for a snack around an open fire. If there is clear weather, we take the break up on a mountain where we can look out over the Bothnian Bay. -Approx 3h Tour - 3-5 Km Walk (Medium)
I am a woodman who loves the wilderness. I have lived up here in the North for most of my life and spend as much time as I can outdoors. I live a traditonal life where the wilderness plays an important part to aquire food and raw materials in all its forms, berries, mushrooms, herbs, fish, meat, firewood and lumber. I hope that I will have the opportunity to show you some of all the amazing places in Kalix and give you the chance to try out the Arctic Lifestyle.
