The purpose of this experience is to discover the jewish history of Barcelona, including it in the old story of the city (from the Romans to the Modernism). We will star in the square of Ramon Berengues El Gran, with the Roman history, also the beginning of the Jewish journey in Hispania. Introducing ourselfs in the Gothic Quarter, we will discover when, were and how the jewish community lived. From the Cathedral of Barcelona we will walk to "the Call", the way the catalans named the jewish quarters. In the Call we will finally get deep into the jewish lives, not only experiencing the city it self, but visiting "El Museu del Call", museum focus in the history, culture and traditions of the sephardic living in the region. After the museum, it will be the turn of the Mayor Synagogue, one of the only sephardic remains in the city, that will show us another of the aspects of this comunity. Finally we will keep walking through the Gothic, trying to understand the size of the jewish area, finishing (if you want to) in the fist Kosher Israeli restaurant in Barcelona or just walking up Las Ramblas till Plaza Catalunya, so you can continue your day as you wish.
I've been a guide in Barcelona for more than eigth years and i thought i knew a lot about Catalunya and Spain history, untill i got married to a israeli men. He open for me the almost secret past of the Sefardies, the jewish comunity that lived in Spain for around 1.500 years. Jewish history is deeply conected with us and now, more than ever, with my life.
