I aim to demystify the process. Its not rocket science: people have been baking bread this way for hundreds of years. We get the convenience of electric oven and refrigeration to give more quality control. And the result couldn't be more delicious

Weigh and mix your dough. Learn about the magical enzymatic transformations taking place in the dough as your future loaf autolyses and starts to ferment.
Develop your dough by stretching and folding rather than laborious kneading.
Shape and prove your loaf.
While the bread is rising create a herbed flatbread and an enriched sweet bread which will be part of your delicious lunch.

After lunch your bread will be ready for baking. While it is in the oven create your own starter to keep and learn how to maintain it, incorporating baking into your lifestyle.

I have been baking bread for family and friends for many years, but in the last 4 years I have focused on sourdough and slow fermentation baking. I have made it a point to attend classes with some great UK bakers, notably Vanessa Kimble at The Sourdough School, and also at River Cottage, and Bread Ahead. I love to share the simple joy of baking fresh nutritious bread from just flour, water and salt.

This was a unique experience with an expert baker. The environment was relaxed and comfortable. It was like being with an old friend. We had a wonderful meal and left with four loaves of bread, some starter, & some brownies. She made sure that we understood how to keep our starter going. If we had more questions, we would still be there! If this is your thing, you need to book with Carol-Ann.

Carol-Ann is genuinely warm and welcoming. Her home is beautiful and inviting and I highly recommend doing the sour dough class - you get much more than what you pay for! Her wisdom of bread making and the hands on experience is outstanding! Carol-Ann has a kind and generous heart and is easy-going - nothing is too much trouble. I left with the confidence that I can make bread, and with a handful of goodies too! Try the experience you’ll love it!

Mum and I had a great day with Carol-Ann in her home learning about and baking sourdough and other bits. She was full knowledge and the day was relaxed and fun with just the two of us and Carol-Ann. Highly recommend!

Carol-Ann is a wonderful teacher and fantastic host. The workshop was hands on and I felt well equipped to make my own breads at home. The two warm breads I took home were delicious and were eaten in no time and enjoyed by everyone. The course is in a beautiful house with very nice gardens. I had a fantastic experience and will recommend this to friends and family.

This is a hands on, immersive workshop but really worth it. It's amazing going home with a starter and a loaf of sourdough - that was *so* special! The location is also superb, Carol-Ann has a stunning house with a beautiful sunny garden. Will recommend to friends!

Carol-Ann was a great host and we really got the chance to get involved and get our hands dirty. I did this with my 11-year-old son and we both came away feeling we could take what Carol-Ann taught us and use it again and again. And the food was really good!
