Finding wild food is all about the weather and season, especially when searching for wild mushrooms. Lucky for us, coastal Oregon offers a wealth of edible plants and fungi throughout the year so we don’t have to hibernate and wait for spring! After a brief introduction in the parking area, Kate and I will lead the group in to the wilderness and explain the fungi and plants that are most relevant to the season and habitat we are in. We will provide you with tips for which habitat to search for specific fungi varieties, which trees and plants are associated with those fungi, how to identify them from their undesireable look alikes, and of course, our favorite ways to prepare them. Once we feel you understand the basics, we will cut you loose to find as many as you can, and when its all said and done we will inspect your mushrooms to insure theyre all safe and properly identified before sending you off to enjoy them at your airbnb! *Expect strenuous hiking. Expect to get wet and a little dirty! You NEED hiking boots, rain gear (especially pants), and most imporantly drinking water!*
We are Nate and Kate, the owners of Vegabond, LLC. We are a local guide service that focuses on wild, hand-foraged food of the Oregon coast! We have harvested wild fungi since we were children, and we have traveled all over the country seeking choice edible mushrooms for years. We are experts in identifying the most desired wild fungi, as well as their undesirable or dangerous lookalikes, and we love to share the magic of wild food with others!
We will provide guests with knives and brushes for cutting and cleaning their finds, and a bag to carry them.

Our forays will have us wandering through either the old growth temperate rainforests of the Coast Range, or the dune forests along the Pacific Ocean. From moss covered everything, to rough skinned newts and a vast network of animal super highways, there is no shortage of amazement in our neck of the woods. You just have to know where to look.
