This a beautiful private 360 acre redwood forest property! We rent the camp for this class and are privileged to operate here. Basic amenities exist such as bathrooms, water, campire pits, and picnic tables. Other than that, just nature! Unlike a state/national park that could have people hiking through, this is a private property and we'll have our very own private redwood glen!

It wasn't as hands-on as I expected. There were only two activities: building a shelter and making fire, both of which were awesome and fun. But the rest, like how to know what to eat and how to find water that is relatively safe to drink, was all delivered in a lecture while we sat for upwards of 30 minutes. Even the beginning involved a lot of lecturing and little activity. It would've been a lot more awesome if we had gone on a short walk through the woods at the end while the instructor pointed out things to eat, and could choose to actually eat them. He did give a good book recommendation. Overall I had fun, learned new things, and was glad I went.

Jack was really knowledgeable and very patient with all of us. The class really showed me how unprepared I was when I have gone out hiking/exploring in the wilderness and how to better prepare for it. I learned skills that I hope I never have to use!

Excellent time learning hands on skills I had watched on some survival TV shows I always wanted to try. I was also glad to find out they offer many other classes related to wilderness survival such as stone tool making, etc. I’m definitely taking more!

We did this as a "fun event" for my team at work and people really enjoyed the activity - everyone has been raving about the experience and how unique it was compared to the standard corporate events like mini-golf or even skiing. It was also fun to work as a team, and get to know each other in a totally different environment.

This experience is an offering from Adventure Out (https://www.adventureout.com/). After signing up, I got a message from Cliff asking to provide my email address so that they can send me more information and have me sign a waiver. The drive to the campsite took about 10 minutes longer than Google maps had estimated because we were not used to driving up mountain roads. At the site, there were a few portable toilets for use. We had a group of around 16 people (about 5 children/young teens in that group). There was a small uphill walk (about 5 minutes) to get to the area for shelter building. For the shelter building part, we were grabbing and moving a lot of debris. Looking back, I would have liked to bring some gloves for this part because I was digging into piles of leaves and dirt without caring what was in there. Then we went back down to learn about making a fire. Some people succeeded, but a lot of others gave up (although we did get the option to keep working on the fire while the instructor was talking during the next part). Finally, the instructor told us about foraging for food and his experience with different types of food (insects, frogs, plants) that he has eaten in the past, tips on how to find a good source of water, and other survival information. Overall, the instructor was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about what to do if we get lost in the woods. It was a little pricey (and from the FAQ in the email we received, "Gratuities are not mandatory, but are relatively customary"), but it was a fun experience, and I'd like to think that this knowledge might help me one day if I need it.
