This is a Basque pintxo tour with a strong focus on local and seasonal food led by a born and bred Donostiarra. We will walk around Gros, the lesser-known neighbourhood where you can see locals go about their daily lives. Together we'll discover the best of San Sebastian´s pintxo culture, while learning about the fascinating Basque gastronomic traditions that are behind it. You'll have a unique experience, tasting the best offerings of Basque traditional and avant garde cuisine. We'll taste the freshest ingredients at a farm to table style bar, whose creative chef is an innovation director at a 3 Michelin starred restaurant. An unpretentious bar with a rustic feel will surprise you with its unique seafood offerings. We'll hang out at a second generation bar which is a favourite amongst local people including the city's top chefs. I'll share with you the "Golden rules" of pintxo ordering, so that following the tour, you can learn how to identify the best seasonal food on your own. At the end of the tour, I'll share with you my frequently updated "Secret Donostia", where you can find everything you need in order to explore the city´s best eateries, farmer markets and handicrafts.
I'm Dawa, a world traveller, entrepreneur and foodie. Born and bred in Donostia, I grew up watching my father wake up with the lark to prepare elaborate food for a prestigious local gastronomic society. While I share my family´s passion for good food, I have developed my own interests in organic farming, sustainability and slow food. I wrote the first Spanish handbook about foraged food and even have an occupied mountainside garden where I grow my own vegetables. A lifelong student of cookery, I´m also taking a class at the world-famous Basque Culinary Centre.
