Once participants find parking, we will have a meet-and-greet with Geoffrey before walking around the property. This will be an eye's on learning tour of our forest garden and its a unique collection of edible and ornamental trees. The rustic architecture of our tiny homes is visible all around. The home hill will make up most of our 1.5 hour time. If time allows we will take a short walk for a demonstration of an agro-forestry system we are developing in our neighbors adjacent pasture. There we find 100's of useful trees integrated with grass for their dairy farm/artisan cheese operation. Participants will learn the theory and practice of planting a forest garden and how to grow fruit and nut trees, specific to the southern Appalachian mountains. Even more, they will gain the confidence & inspiration to improve and beautify their own landscapes. Geoffrey is an experienced naturalist with a colloquial and very personal style of instruction. He lives on the land you will tour with his wife and three daughters in their homemade house. This experience is scheduled every Friday, but if you would like to come another day of the week, just send a personal message.
Geoff & Sofi
I am an agro-forester and educator who has worked commercial and hobby orchards since age 18. In addition to helping design & install landscapes for fruit and nut trees (broad-acre permaculture), I have been developing an edible forest garden on the hills and hollow around my home since 2009. Participants will get a private tour of our property and a practical hand-on experience with the planting, maintenance, identification, grafting and pruning of more than 35 species of tasty and ornamental trees and shrubs.
