On this unique hiking adventure to the top of Mount Sabache-Ololokwe, you'll learn about the Samburu warrior culture and its ancient traditions. An experienced Samburu guide will lead you from your camp through ancient cycad forests all the way to the mountain summit. Your guide will share knowledge about the area's rich bird and wildlife diversity, as well as the Samburu's traditional medicinal plants. The next day, you'll travel back to Nairobi by car, plane, or public transportation.
I am a wildlife biologist and professor of biology who has lived and worked with the local Samburu tribe for over 18 years. The Samburu warrior guides are experienced professionals who have led hundreds of participants on adventures, including children with parents, and who personally know the mountain and its habitat intimately, as well as traditional local cultural traditions and flora and fauna. While the hike could be considered strenuous, it accommodates guests of all levels of experience and fitness. The pace is set by the guest. Guest to Guide ratio: 4:1 depending on your group size.
