Together, we will explore the 110 year old Wekerle Estate: walk along its village-like streets, visit its special folk secessionist buildings and sit in its green parks. We will visit a private garden and enter the basement of a 100 years old building, where people hid during the bombings of World War II. During our journey, you will definately forget that you are just 15 minutes from the city center of Budapest, and you will learn a lot about Hungarian history and architecture.
I grew up in Wekerle; I know every single corner of it. I work as a Portuguese language teacher and as a tour guide. My passion is to learn foreign languages in order to use them to give and receive interesting facts or pieces of information. There are times when my colleague Samu will guide you. He is also a tour guide and an urban planner.

Wekerle was built, at the start of the 20th century, to house skilled workers coming from the countryside. The Estate is one of the largest and oldest garden cities in Europe. Besides being a green and liveable place, it has a very special architectural heritage, and is the most significant example of Hungarian folk secession of the 20th century. The entire Estate became a national monument in 2011.
