You'll join Anand in his home kitchen to learn the stories and history behind his family recipes and other South Asian cuisines through hands on cooking while learning the Ayurvedic medicinal, historical and socio-cultural significance of the ingredients and dishes we create. You'll enjoy any food you cook and receive a parting gift of any spices and masalas you've learned to use so you can recreate the meal at home. Please note that while Anand loves the flavors of chicken tikka masala and naan as much as the next person, we'll be looking to dive deeper into the diverse and complex gastronomy of Indian home and royal kitchens beyond the standard Mughlai cuisine common to the "Punjabi" restaurants we've all come to enjoy. Together, we'll enjoy the nuances and complexities of traditional cuisine not commonly found in the Indian restaurants of the West.
From traditional Ayurvedic medicinal principles to resisting the British colonial powers, the land of spices has a social, religious, medicinal or political reason for almost everything that's produced in a traditional kitchen. Since I was an inquisitive 9 year old, I've been learning what those reasons are and how to continue the ancient food traditions of my family and our family friends. Born and raised in the US, I connected and learned about my Indian heritage primarily through our food traditions. I share my recipes and stories with any friends who enter my kitchen- come join me!

My apartment is large, clean and spacious. We'll be cooking with my assortment of over 40 different spices the way my family has for generations. My kitchen is the scene of a lot of laughter, fun and good vibes as I host friends to cook with me quite often.
