프로그램

Let's go treasure hunting! Geocaching is the world's largest treasure hunt. It's like a grown-up version of the beloved childhood pastime, except it's no joke. Geocaching is the real deal. The high-tech treasure hunt combines GPS tracking with outdoor adventure, and it's fun for all ages.

There are more than three million geocaches hidden all around the world in parks, trails, and urban areas. In fact, there are probably some near you as you're reading this. But finding the GPS coordinates is only half the game. First, you have to find the box.

We will all meet at a small local public park where I will introduce you to this adventure called "geocaching". We'll take about an hour to go over how it works, the tools needed, types of "caches" and most important, how to geocache safely. We will find a few practice geocaches in the park and then, having set up our Geocaching.com smartphone app or GPS devices, we will then embark, caravan style, on a local journey and look for more official Geocaches. During the final 2 hours we should be able to "log" at least 6 more geocaches. Some are easy-peasy, some are a bit more challenging. Some are big. Some are small.

Once the adventure is over you'll be a fully equipped Geocacher. Continue to locate the rest of the caches in the area or take your skills and tools with you. Wherever you go there are sure to be more logs to sign!

I have a passion for the outdoors and outdoor related activities. I have been a volunteer interpreter with Texas Parks and Wildlife for over 10 years, I am a Certified Interpretive Guide, Certified Texas Master Naturalist and BSA Eagle Scout. I am also a Leave No Trace Trainer and ACA Certified Kayak Trip Leader. I am an avid birder and inshore saltwater fisherman. I serve on the Board of Directors of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of The Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park. My wife and I have lived in the Austin County area and on our 11 acre habitat (Cedar Hollar) in New Ulm for 7 years. What I enjoy the most is sharing the great outdoors and the natural, historical and cultural resources of this area with others through learning and having fun.

방문 장소

Austin and Colorado Counties are considered by many to be "The Cradle of Texas". The area is rich in Texas history and abounds with beautiful scenery year round. Our adventure is located between the Colorado and Brazos Rivers but closer to the Colorado. In between the two it's not uncommon to sit in a post oak savanna one minute and a black land prairie the next. Not to mention the charming small farming communities in the area.
