You'll be welcomed into our community garden in the heart of edgy inner-city Darlinghurst, with a mug of naturopathic herbal tea picked fresh from the garden. Take time to look at the beautiful plants and speak to a couple of our members while everyone else arrives. Then there will be a brief talk about the therapeutic benefits of gardening, how you can garden mindfully and why gardening is an important activity for individuals experiencing disadvantage. We'll then get stuck into creating a terrarium; a miniature garden world that is easy to look after and a special way to bring life into small urban spaces. We have a variety of styles to make including arid desert landscapes using geometric succulents, lush rainforests in quirky sealed jars or stony ornamental Japanese zen gardens. Our organisation creates terrarium's as a way of providing garden-therapy to elderly and vulnerable people. We also sell these miniature gardens by donation to raise funds to support individuals experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. You are welcome to keep your terrarium or donate it back to us providing further support to the Street Growth community.
Street Growth has been operating as a community garden to support individuals experiencing disadvantage since 2011. Its members have diverse backgrounds but we all share a love of gardening. Some members have qualifications in horticulture, landscaping, architecture, floristry, architecture, social work, neuroscience and psychology ect. However, the most important qualification we all share is being part of an open, supportive and empowering community that recognises wisdom comes from many places including living with disadvantage. The sum of our knowledge is our greatest qualification.
Street Growth focuses on mental health issues, aiming to improve the lives of individuals experiencing homeless & disadvantage. Using the community garden as a base, our weekly program provides a supportive atmosphere conducive to learning & self-care. Coming together to maintain and build our garden we find common purpose & connection. Donations for the garden's produce support the community.

We'll be at our community garden next to St Johns Church; a NSW Heritage listed, gothic revival church in inner-city Darlinghurst. Darlinghurst is a much loved area known for its funky vibe, trendy shops, small bars, art galleries and restaurants. At the end of the experience we can point out some of the best bars, restaurants and retro shops to check out in the area.
