We will spend the afternoon telling stories at some of San Francisco's most iconic writing landmarks. Once you are thoroughly inspired we will find a cozy spot in Vesuvio to try our hand at writing. Don't worry, you wont have to read your work out loud if you don't want to. We will start with a writing game at Caffe Trieste where Jack Kerouac spent much of his time writing. I’ll buy you a coffee so we can channel his caffeine fueled frenzy. Once our creative juices are flowing we will wonder down to the infamous City Lights bookstore. Many incredible writers found their feet here including Allen Ginsberg whose poem Howl was first sold at City Lights. I’ll tell you a few stories about Mr Ginsberg and his contemporaries so you can imagine yourself in their shoes furiously writing in a nicotine stained bar, surrounded by papers and angst. We will take a look at a framework I use for storytelling and discuss writing techniques, then find a quiet spot so you can try your hand at writing the beginning of your own story. Our adventure will end at Vesuvio, a wonderfully bohemian bar where many of the great writers whiled away the hours drinking enormous quantities of red wine.
