프로그램

* Special full moon, lantern-lit tours (time of battle commencement) evening
Blood moon: Hallowe'en, Oct 29, 30 & 31st
THURSDAY: free museum night beside walk

March along to a different drum this visit to Niagara

Join us for an always tongue-in-cheek discussion starting at the major battlefield from the “War of 1812” in Niagara Falls looming just beyond vineyards.

The 1814 Battle of Lundy's Lane was considered to be the bloodiest battles here in the shadow of our waterfalls.

We walk in the footsteps of those here before us: Brown, Drummond, Scott, Riall and many local pioneer families caught in between.

We visit the men, women and families displaced by this pivotal battle exploring the battlefield and piecing together a local's perspective through the lives of many families buried here and their larger-than-life neighbours

Then as we make our US retreat downhill we'll examine the war from multiple perspectives: merchants, Americans, farmers, First Nations, the British, English and new Canadians .. while also getting some sightlines via one last special link to a monument at Lundy's Lane.

Themes:
The Bonapartes, “It's their fault”
The Lundy's Lane Battlefield and adjacent Drummond Hill cemetary
Who lost (hint: the First Nations), who won
Anthems and the industrial revolutions
Slavery, civil war, rebellions & why it all matters today

Rob is a language instructor, AirBnb host, amateur historian and competent cook -- who cut his teeth in family kitchens from Lithuania to Hong Kong; and classrooms from Brisbane to Ottawa.

Candice works in the finance industry by day, by night she is a fun-loving, tap dancer and songstress who does a mean barbecue when she isn't looking for new swimming spots and ahem "practicing" her mad yodelling skills.

We are the children of immigrants whom love hosting people, sharing from our common experiences—and, of course, making friends from all over the world.

So, please join Rob on a journey through time to the 19th century where you will meet Niagara's pioneer families and their journey from the battlefield to modern times.

My friend and I did this, hoping for something off the beaten path, so to speak when it comes to going to Niagara Falls. We decided to take this tour to learn and see what we could see....it turned out to be a wonderful experience that was fun, interesting, educational and eye opening. We got much more than we expected, and Robert was chock full of information and history, at the same time made a serious subject entertaining. We recommend this to anyone and will let our friends know if anyone is visiting Niagara Falls.

Robert has a unique presentation that's gripping and memorable. He demonstrated a passion for the subject and is a master at storytelling. He also went above and beyond to care for our needs. If we had any questions he was prompt to answer them or look them up and send us the info later. I would highly recommend participating in anything Robert sets up. He's awesome.

Robert’s passion and knowledge about Niagara’s history was amazing. He willingly created the walking tour to suit the needs of my husband and myself. Even though there was a pandemic, we felt safe with him as our personal tour guide. We have visited Niagara Falls many times before, but this was the first time that we felt connected to the city’s rich history thanks to Robert. He shared hidden architectural gems and gave a comprehensive description of the city’s founders. He brought alive the culture and historical relevance of Niagara Falls in its infancy. Walking around the Lundy’s Lane battlefields and learning more about the Underground Railroad and the rarely discussed heroes was enlightening. Robert eagerly shared recommendations for local restaurants, we had an amazing Polish dinner at Polindaz Place thanks to his suggestion. It was a marvellous way to spend a day in Niagara Falls!
