A day in the life of a Monkey Helpline rescuer. Volunteer with us and discover why it’s an “at least once in a lifetime” must do! Volunteer with us and you will have an experience of a lifetime. You cannot imagine what a unique, exciting and meaningful experience this will be! Monkey Helpline responds to over 1000 rescue call outs every year, and this results in us always having 200 or more rescued monkeys in our care. So when you volunteer with us for the day you will be a part of the team that carries out these exciting rescues, takes monkeys (and other rescued animals) to the vet for treatment and spends time at the vet assisting with the treatment and post-treatment care of these animals! We rarely do less than 3 rescues a day, but the rescue count can be anything between 3 and 10, and on occasion, up to 15, in one day. Some exciting and adrenalin pumping, some less so. You will however never be put in a situation of danger, and you will always end your day feeling that you have been a part of something of real value! This is a real hands on day! So expect to run from rescue to vet, to assisting in feeding our injured monkeys, cleaning enclosures attending educational talks. Note - You will only observes tasks conducted by Monkey Helpline and no direct interaction i.e touching petting will occur.

Also known as “the monkey man”, Steve will scale walls, climb tress and bundu bash through any terrain to catch monkeys in desperate need. Carol Booth - Co-Founder of Monkey Helpline. Carol has dedicated her life and resources; car, house, cash, to Monkey Helpline and it’s goals. She is the mom to all our monkeys in the clinic, rehab and sanctuary, and will sit up until all hours feeding, nursing and caring for her furry children.
Although no day is the same, we will drive from one location to another The location depends on the call out / Rescue we receive. This could be anywhere in the Durban area.
