We'll all say hello and then I'll kick off with a bit of local geology, especially the Devonian rocks formed south of the Equator, and how the caves happened. Before going underground we'll consider our proximity to nearby beaches, and work out how is it that ancient humans, including Neanderthals, crossed the English Channel during the Ice Age. Now for the Narnia moment; I open the large oak door, you go "wow!". The cave is right there, and in you go, an experience described by Beatrix Potter in 1893, which I'll share. It suddenly quiet. Your private cave tour experience begins; into a underground place known to Charles Darwin, to Agatha Christie, to King George V, and to the nomadic ancient humans of the Ice Age. It's awesome. People from the past who all experienced the same walls and ceilings you are seeing. I'll show you where the oldest human fossil in Britain was found, a 41,000 year old jawbone, and tell you the story and controversy surrounding its age. You'll handle flint hand axes, see a 400,000 year old cave bear skull, original fossils and human skulls - selfie time. During our underground wander we'll stop for a glass of local English wine, beer or fruit drink by candlelight - my favourite part! We'll find our way to the exit (hopefully) and back to the modern world where I'll sort you out with a traditional Devon cream tea on the deck.
Hi, I'm Nick and I have a cave, and not just any old cave. My cave has been used by humankind for over 500,000 years and it's millions of years old. The very first Stone Age people used this cave before anywhere else and that makes it Britain's oldest home. Access into the cave is carefully controlled but with me you will have a bespoke cave experience you won’t forget. I've led cave tours into Kent Cavern for 20 years and know its history inside out. I'll chat in English, or French if you prefer! I'm an expert in showcaves and UNESCO Geoparks having travelled the World as a UNESCO Geopark expert. My family have been at the caves since Victorian times and I'm the 5th generation to be custodian of this extraordinary prehistoric cave. I'Il add plenty of local knowledge into experience and suggestions for must dos and sees.

The underground walk is relatively flat, entirely on prepared surfaces, well lit, with a flight of 9 steps. No specialist equipment is required and you will not have to stoop. It's like a walk along a flat section of footpath. The natural environment means that wheelchair access is not possible.
