Join me and explore the unique birds that call California home! Whether you are new to birding or it is one of your biggest passions, I can help you find these interesting and beautiful creatures, but also teach you about the life histories, needs, and conservation efforts along the way. Our morning excursion begins in riparian and primarily wooded habitat for passerines and migrant bird species, with a mid-morning snack break, then on to managed wetlands and open fields, where we'll look for hawks, grassland birds, and waterfowl. This will give us a broad picture of the bird species found on this beautiful preserve.
Food fare may include fruits, cheese, bagels and cream cheese.
I've been a bird guide and biologist in many places: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, etc. I've helped citizen science programs, like Breeding Bird Surveys and Christmas Bird Counts, done wildlife population studies and nest monitoring. I’ve traveled around the world for birdwatching (Tanzania, Uganda, Borneo, Belize, Costa Rica, China, Spain, Australia, Bonaire, not to mention most of the U.S. and offshore pelagics). I'm very passionate about conservation and ecology, which includes my profession, and love sharing my specialized knowledge with both children and adults. Other birdwatching experiences I host are: Putah Creek/Yolo Bypass (http://bit.ly/2Zg3chu) and Gray Lodge Wildlife Management Area (http://bit.ly/2Na9wAZ).
We'll meet at the Visitor's Center and get an overview of the area, while checking out what species are visiting the hummingbird feeders. From there, we'll take the boardwalk through the riparian area, stopping to listen to bird songs, look for elusive species, and learn about the migrants coming through. We'll take a short snack break, then move on to wetlands with marsh species and plenty of waterfowl that are part of the Pacific Flyway.
