Discover the traditional craft of wool-making with this hands on experience designed for beginners (not suitable for children under 12). The day is not simply a demonstration, and each of you will be working with your own spindle or loom. On arrival, meet a small number of our friendliest sheep, and start to feel and appreciate their woolly coats. You will learn about the properties of natural wool, and will get to work with a fleece which has come straight from the back of a sheep! Everyone will have an opportunity to examine, prepare and wash some fleece. In a 'spinning day' (Wednesdays) you will learn how to 'card' the wool , and will then be taught how to use a drop spindle. In a 'weaving day' (Tuesdays) you will learn how to set up a small peg loom, and start weaving with the raw wool. All materials are provided. Our experience days are designed to be fun and friendly, and with a maximum of six people on a course everyone will get plenty of time and attention. Throughout the day we will provide delicious home-made refreshments, including morning coffee, lunch, and afternoon tea - all refreshments are a part of the experience in that they serve to celebrate smallholding life - home made biscuits and cake, and lunch sourced from our smallholding (including optional vegetarian lunch).
My husband and I have been building up our idyllic smallholding in rural mid Devon since 2012. We have a small flock of beautiful rare breed sheep, who live alongside the pigs, chickens, ducks, cats and dog. We are superhosts for our little thatched B&B cottage, and have enjoyed introducing our guests to our livestock and to a more relaxed lifestyle, in tune with nature. Over the years we have been using the fleece (wool) from our sheep to produce different unique and hand made products, including throws, scarves and most recently cat blankets! The experience which we offer allows participants to appreciate one of the wonders of our natural world - meeting the sheep who 'grow' the fleece, and working with the fleece straight from the back of the sheep, cleaning it, and then learning the most basic of spinning or weaving techniques

We host this experience on our idyllic smallholding which is very much off the beaten track. We will happily collect guests from the nearby village car park, or from the bus or rail station in Copplestone. Guests will meet the sheep in a paddock or barn (depending upon the weather) adjoining our workshop. Most of the day will be spent in our workshop, which is modest, but comfortable, displaying all things woolly!
만 12세 이상의 게스트 최대 6명 참여 가능 This is a working smallholding so guests should be comfortable around animals, including dogs, cats and chickens. Please note that we run the weaving experience on Tuesdays, and the spinning experience on Wednesdays.

The location is wonderfully rural. The track to us is rough in places. If coming by car it may be a problem if you have low suspension, but we will happily collect you from the village car park. Buses and trains regularly stop in Copplestone village, and we will happily meet guests there.
