The workshop starts at 10:00 and finishes at 16:00 with 30 minutes for on site lunch. (Timing of this is flexible dependent upon where we are in the process.)
I like to customise each workshop to cover all the essential steps, but also if possible to incorporate any specific requests my Students may have.
*** During the pandemic I am limiting my workshop to one person only ***
Over 16 years old, due to the nature of the process we use hotplates and hot air guns and burners.
Each Guest is furnished with a suggested list of kit, should they wish to take up this medium at home.
We start the day as follows;
. introduction to the tools, resources and history of encaustic wax.
. Working in a safe environment (heat, ventilation)
. How to create the encaustic Wax medium and pigmented Wax.
. Preparing your panel for painting (we work on a hand crafted birch ply panel)
. Layering and fusing the wax.
.Mark making, creating texture, embedding images, making a silicon mould and casting small objects in wax to embed on the surface.
. Using stencils.
. Finishing your panel ready for hanging.
. Short discussion on how the day went, ideas on taking it forward.
. Guests leave with their panel.

I teach Contemporary Encaustic Wax Workshops. Unlike the more well known craft of working with wax blocks and an iron on card, the method I am skilled in, and have taught for several years, uses beeswax, damar resin and pigments. Creating unique, textural paintings with molten wax, is an ancient technique used by the Egyptians. I am one of only a handful of Artists in the UK and Europe, who specialise in this technique. My Workshops have received excellent feedback which can be viewed on my website and on http://www.Craftcourses.com where I am a Gold Standard Tutor.

The Workshop takes place in my Art Studio. This is part of an Artist community courtyard which was purpose-built in the 1980’s to complement the neighbouring St George’s Heritage Centre, a listed former School on the Isle and Royal Manor of Portland.
