With this essential information, Kabuki experience will be more understandable and enjoyable. The tour begins with a "What is Kabuki?" talk over Japanese tea and sweets at a Japanese tea shop in a rooftop Japanese garden before exploring the Kabuki-za Gallery. Your guide, Kazui, will show you her precious 150 year old “Ukiyo-e”, woodblock prints and other Kabuki-related collections! At the gallery, you will be shown props and costumes used for the shows, and enjoy short films of Kabuki performances. There are even hands-on activities such as a chance to play the classical instruments which give Kabuki its distinct sound. Kazui will explain about each exhibit and how to enjoy the Kabuki short films. This will give you a wonderful experience of Kabuki even if you are unable to attend a live performance. Hi, my name is Kazui. I love all stage arts and particularly enjoyed Kabuki since the age of 5. I have been providing Kabuki tours since 2010. Kabuki is registered as intangible cultural heritage and is rarely performed outside Tokyo. Staring only male actors, it has over 400 years of history. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience of Kabuki. My “About Kabuki” talk and visual presentation will povide you a great overview of Kabuki a fun experience at the Kabuki-za Gallery. As part of my talk, I would like to show you my Ukiyo-e (woodblock print) collection. Before the invention of modern photography, actors’ autographs and profiles in programmes were in the form of Ukiyo-e. I also recommend some guided souvenir shopping time! Please allow me to help you get the very best out of Kabuki!
